“Airline connectivity and distribution, including new airline merchandising strategies, requires standards that can be quickly and easily embraced by the travel industry,” says Jim Young, Executive Director of Open AXIS Group. “As an airline-focused organization, Open AXIS Group is dedicated to developing an XML standard that is poised to revolutionize, and ultimately simplify, airline content distribution. Our close collaboration with other industry organizations and standards groups means that we can deepen the level and scope of innovation. Today’s release of an updated schema is reflective of the innovation seen across our member organizations.”

When released in July 2010, the Open AXIS Group’s initial XML standard ushered in a robust airline industry standardized XML schema capable of delivering comprehensive functionality to both the supply and demand sides of the travel supply chain. This XML messaging system supported a full range of airline transactions such as shopping and pricing, reservation management, ticketing, profile management and various merchandising-related transactions, including optional services, bundling and EMD management. Since then the organization has grown to 33 members, with the standard currently in production with 12 airlines.
